Raising sponsorship money
Raising sponsorship can be more difficult that running the race itself so the following hints may be of help to you:
Don’t panic
There are many sponsored events these days so people are used to this form of fundraising
Be organised
Most people fail at raising money because they do not get organised in time. A little time spent planning where and how you will get your money will pay rich dividends.
You can get support
By asking friends, relatives and work colleagues you can organise events and don’t forget other contacts such as your local pub, garage or newsagent. They may be willing to let you leave a collection box as long as it is clearly labelled with why you are collecting money.
How much to raise?
Obviously, as much as possible! The NSPCC needs your support to continue to provide local services to abused and neglected children – and every little helps. If your sponsors are tax payers and put a tick in the Gift Aid column on the Sponsorship Form the NSPCC as a charity is able to claim back from the Inland Revenue the tax the donor has already paid on their donation.
Sometimes companies will match whatever amount you raise; others will cap it at perhaps £250 or £500. Tell this to people when you are asking for sponsorship as they may be prepared to give you more. There is nothing to lose by asking and the company can claim tax relief on what they give.
